The Sponsor-A-Mind members has close relationships with family outreach coordinators and teachers at inner-city schools, and they are the primary contact with families in need. There is no more important endeavor for our cityâ??s youth than obtaining a good education. It is the key to opening their opportunities, expanding their worldview, and helping them and their families rise out of difficult economic circumstances. Unfortunately, these circumstances often make it difficult for some students to afford the school supplies they need to complete homework and assignments. Without proper tools, it is hard to do the job of learning.

Ancient Historical Society MuseumWithout knowing anotherâ??s historical background, this may lead to thought-provoking images/questions, at times, of another person/s. Yet, not being aware of oneâ??s historical milieu, they may go through life â??like a ship without a rudderâ??. In order to enlighten most individuals of historyâ??s broad spectrum of traditions, cultural and societal unity, that may be dormant at times, it is the intent of the Ancient Historical Society to demonstrate a quest to conserve, attain, sustain, and provide fellowship of all people and information for all people. Furthermore, this will be accomplished through diverse aspects that encompass art, language, religion, science, and spirituality. Moreover, this will allow one to become more self-actualized, while learning about another individualâ??s historical locale. In turn, oneâ??s thought-process may improve from a sub-optimal level to the utmost optimal level of thinking.
HIV/AIDS Awareness ProgramIn todayâ??s world, an individualâ??s health should be of integral importance to her/him and to society, as a whole. To function at the most effective level, oneâ?? s body, mind, and soul must be in sync with each other. To assist and support others with conceptualizing the significance of the well being of the entire human being, the objective of the Medical Coalition is to enlighten everyone about healthier eating patterns, feeding the mind with intellectual information, and having positive thoughts. These features can help to uplift oneâ??s self esteem, while implementing optimistic change within the self. Thus, with these accomplishments, an individual will become a powerful force to be reckoned with, not only in her/his community, but likewise, in the global society.
Boston Philharmonic Donates 30 Tickets to Moer Foundation. The Moer Foundation thanked and happily accepted 30 tickets to the Boston Philharmonic Event. A Moer Foundation director (Ms. Roshan Strickland) will accompany 30 students from the local inner city schools to enjoy this event. Perhaps the most emotion-drenched and inspiring event of the 2007-2008 season was the appearance with the orchestra of legendary Russian cellist Natalia Gutman playing the Shostakovich First Cello Concerto. So overwhelming was the impression that she made that immediately following the Saturday concert â?? with one performance left to go â?? we had already invited her back for the next year. One of the profoundest, most moving musicians ever to appear with the orchestra, Gutman had members of the audience, and members of the orchestra as well, visibly weeping during her encores â?? several movements of a Bach cello suite.
M.O.E.R GREEN TEAM CORE GREEN GOALS • Retrain blue collar workers: Transition current blue-collar workers in the city Boston into green-collar careers to support businesses with a focus on providing high-quality green jobs. • Provide green career ladders for youth: Provide pathways out of poverty for youth with barriers to employment by providing green job training for jobs in the clean energy economy. • Reduce CO2 emissions: Supply the trained workforce that can make the City of Boston less polluting, more energy efficient, and more environmentally sustainable. • Creating a green economic leadership program: Promote City of Boston’s position as a leading region in green economic development through highly- skilled green job workforce. Job implications of expanded energy efficient retrofitting work As public and private investments in energy efficiency retrofitting expand, the industry overall will grow. This will lead to the creation of new occupations as well as the transformation of existing ones. The types of occupations associated with this work are described below. As identified by the Initiative, the two particular occupations with the most growth potential are assessors / auditors and energy efficiency measure installers / laborers. • A certified assessor / auditor performs diagnostic tests and makes observations on buildings to determine what remedial actions need to be taken to improve the energy performance of the building. This person returns after completion of the weatherization work to evaluate the quality of the remedial activity. • A contractor is hired to do the work prescribed by the assessor. • A site supervisor, likely an employee of the contractor, manages the workforce and materials within the facility. • The energy efficiency measure installers or laborers do the remedial work (insulation, air sealing, window/door replacement, etc.). This is important to bear in mind as we consider the supply of workers available to fill these occupations. To effectively meet employer demands in the occupations projected to grow, or be transformed through the growing green economy; the City of Boston will need to tap into its most valuable assets – its residents with a direct focus on its youth.

Moer Foundation uses We Can! to Educate Boston YouthThe Moer Foundation, a general community site in Boston, Massachusetts, is a non-profit organization with affiliate sites located in North Carolina, Georgia, and New York. Last fall, the Foundation used We Can! program materials to discuss the importance of healthy eating with local parents and children. On average, more than 30 families attend these meetings and learn about the importance of increased physical activity, improved nutrition, and reducing screen time. The Moer Foundation emphasizes the theme-lose your weight, not your culture-which demonstrates their belief in the need for culturally sensitive health education programs within current childhood overweight prevention strategies. In 2008, the site will officially launch its We Can! program with a Walk-a-Thon. It is also planning to expand its We Can! programming by signing up its affiliate locations as new We Can! community sites in the coming year.
